What is an alcohol-free spirit?2020-06-09T16:26:15+00:00

An alcohol-free spirit is a drink distilled from water using the same method as an alcoholic spirit i.e. vodka, gin, or whisky, but it is made using water that does not contain any alcohol. We filter our water to remove any microscopic baddies and then, as it is distilled, the drink is flavoured with the botanical ingredients specific to its recipe.

Do I need to keep Bax Botanics in the fridge?2020-06-09T16:27:50+00:00

Once opened your Bax Botanics does not need to be refrigerated, although it is advisable to store it away from bright sunlight.

Are these drinks a gin?2020-06-09T16:28:37+00:00

These drinks are not a gin, although there are layers of botanical flavours which can, in some cases, taste rather gin-like. The definition of a gin is an alcoholic liquor obtained either by distilling a grain mash with juniper or re-distilling spirits with flavouring agents that include juniper. So, having neither juniper or alcohol we are happy to say that Bax Botanics isn’t a gin.

You may be interested to know that the word ‘gin’ is derived from the Dutch word Genever – which in English means juniper.

What do Bax Botanics drinks taste like?2021-06-10T10:49:23+00:00

Bax Botanics alcohol-free spirits are filled with layers of botanical flavours. There are aromatic herbs and flowers that give the drinks lovely bright high flavour notes and roots and fruits which provide depth and tone. These multiple layers combine to produce a fully rounded drinking experience.

Sea Buckthorn

The Sea Buckthorn distillation tastes of fragrant herbs, citrusy Seville oranges and subtle, warm, buttery baking. This might sound unusual but the blend feels relaxed, luxurious and fulfilling.

Verbena

The Verbena alcohol-free spirit tastes of refreshing, light, bright herbs. There are citrus notes and hints of menthol. This is the one that feels fresh and stimulating.

How are Bax Botanics drinks made?2020-06-09T16:31:01+00:00

Our drinks are distilled using filtered water and the finest organic botanicals. A mixture of herbs, roots, fruits and flowers are perfectly blended to create the recipes. We then preserve the drinks so that they may be consumed for up to one year after opening.

How do I serve Bax Botanics drinks?2020-06-09T16:33:21+00:00

Bax Botanics alcohol-free spirits have been created primarily to be mixed with tonic. The dilution and the fizz enables the flavours to come alive. The tiny flavour molecules are released into the mixer where they have the space to expand giving off their gorgeous aromas and layers of flavour. We recommend always to taste the drinks diluted, but feel free to use your own favourite mixer or have a look at our suggestions on ‘Serves’.

Do Bax Botanics drinks contain alcohol?2020-06-09T16:36:17+00:00

There’s no alcohol in Bax Botanics. They have been designed as an alternative to an alcoholic drink, but you can be assured there is no alcohol. This is perfect for people who for whatever reasons prefer to stay alert and keep off the booze!

We have created a drink that is presented like a gin would be in a bar or restaurant, with beautiful, complementary garnishes and ice. This makes you feel special and equal to all the other drinkers. The taste of the drink too can feel almost as if it has alcohol in it. This is similar to a good wine, gin or whisky where multiple layers of flavour fill your mouth, giving many different flavour accents and with tastes that linger long on the palate.

Why does my Bax Botanics have small crystals in the bottle?2020-06-09T16:37:10+00:00

Occasionally this happens due to a change in temperature.  Shake the bottle and the crystals will re-dissolve.

Why is there one calorie in the drink when the ingredients show no carbohydrate or fats?2020-06-09T16:38:08+00:00

There is 1 calorie in every 100mls, so that is just half a calorie per serving!

The calorific values in the ingredients are so small that they come below the guidelines for nutritional labelling. The calories are split between the different nutritional catagories meaning that each value falls below 1. If all the nutritional values are combined they amount to 1 calorie per 100ml

Are Bax Botanics alcohol-free spirits suitable for diabetics?2021-01-16T10:07:37+00:00

The simple answer is yes, as the drinks contain no sugar, but this will depend on the mixer that you add to your Bax’s and to your own personal medical needs. Some tonic drinks contain sugar, as do other mixers. Please read the labels carefully and follow medical advice.

Can I drink Bax Botanics if I am pregnant?2020-07-24T10:03:32+00:00

Of course, Bax Botanics are alcohol-free so this is excellent news for pregnancy. All our botanicals are organically certified and every batch of our drinks are tested in the micro-biology lab. The herbs and botanicals in our drinks are all accepted culinarily and are free from any nutritional restrictions. Having said all this if you are unsure please take medical advice.
